About Us
Divine Grace Baptist Church
The story of our beginning............
In January 2003 Wallace Williams and his wife Lois moved to Long Beach, Mississippi, to start the Divine Grace Mission. They had a good start and quickly gathered a group of believers who were excited about the prospects of building a strong church.
However, just as they were getting things organized, Hurricane Katrina hit the coast. Lives were lost. Homes were destroyed. Businesses were closed and many families left the area.
Brother Wallace made it through Katrina, but many people who had been involved in the mission were no longer living in the area.
So what do you do when a hurricane seemingly destroys what you have poured twenty months of hard labor into? Brother Wallace knew that God had led him to Long Beach to build a church, so he stayed.
Brother Williams and his people had bought some land with a cow shed on it. The shed had no sides and a dirt floor. They poured a slab and made a decision...."This is where we are going to worship."
From September 2005 through March 2007, that shed became Holy Ground. Imagine the difficulties. No air conditioning during the hot Mississippi summers. Little heat during the cool, rainy seasons. Nothing to keep the bugs, critters, or elements out of their sanctuary.
Yet this was truly a Sanctuary-----a Holy Place. People visited, hearts were touched, lives were changed, and sinners came to the Savior. Why? Because a group of believers were hungry to worship their God.
Today they have a building with walls and utilities. The congregation has grown to well over 100 members and they now have several new ministries that reach out to the community. The people that visit almost always join the church because when they hear the Holy Spirit speaking through a man's heart that was obedient to God no matter the circumstances, they want to be a part of that also.
Still standing outback is the old cow shed.... It gives silent tribute to God's Blessings and a Testimony to their desire to worship and serve him as a people of God with a yearning for worship. They refused to let the lack of a building or any circumstances make worship a lesser priority.
